The Foundation was a 501c3 charity that is funded primarily from tax deductible donations and revenue from our horse shows and clinics. Our board members contribute their time and expertise and 100% of funds raised are used for charitable purposes.

Additional Information

The Foundation’s programs and charitable purposes are intended to:

1) Expand and improve the hunter and jumper equestrian disciplines within the state of Washington

The Foundation’s ultimate goal is (i) to increase public interest and participation in the hunter and jumper disciplines within the state of Washington and (ii) to encourage residents of the state of Washington to become more educated, skilled, and proficient in the hunter and jumper disciplines. To achieve this goal, the Foundation promotes educational, scholarship, and achievement opportunities (such as those described below).

2) Identify, create, fund and sponsor educational programs and events, including clinics and horse shows, that promote (i) the skills and knowledge of both riders and trainers and (ii) the welfare of horses

The Foundation intends to achieve its goals by sponsoring continuing education clinics throughout the year (featuring nationally recognized judges, coaches, and trainers) that will provide instruction in horsemanship, equitation, teaching methods, and techniques that can be employed to enhance performance in both the recreational and competitive pursuit of the hunter and jumper disciplines.

The Foundation also intends to sponsor hunter and jumper horse shows during the year that will allow participants to demonstrate and test their mastery of these disciplines in a competitive setting. It is expected that most of these horse shows will be attended by participants from the Western United States and Canada and will be sanctioned by the United States Equestrian Federation (the national governing body for the hunter and jumper disciplines). The Foundation’s horse shows are expected to be the primary location for the majority of its clinics.

The Foundation’s educational programs will be held within the state of Washington, will be open to the public, and will be funded primarily from participation fees and donations. More than 50% of the Foundation’s time is expected to be allocated to its educational programs.

3) Provide scholarships to participate in these and other educational programs<

The Foundation intends to provide scholarships to its clinics and horse shows, and for other educational opportunities conducted inside and outside of the state of Washington, for residents of the state of Washington that are able to demonstrate a financial need and/or a level of mastery of the hunter and jumper disciplines. Other educational opportunities include national and regional finals and potentially international hunter and jumper events.

Scholarships will be funded primarily from donations, net proceeds from horse shows and clinics, and the net proceeds from fund raising events sponsored by the Foundation that include auctions, pie throwing contests, and other activities overseen by members of the Foundation’s Executive Board and volunteers. Roughly 20% of the Foundation’s time is expected to be allocated to its scholarship programs.

4) Recognize the achievements of participants in these and other educational and informational programs

The Foundation intends to increase public awareness of, and participation in, the Foundation’s educational and scholarship programs by recognizing the achievements of those who participate and those who have achieved a specified level of mastery within the hunter and jumper disciplines. These achievement programs will be funded primarily from donations and revenue from horse shows and clinics. Roughly 10% of the Foundation’s time is expected to be allocated to its achievement programs.

Participants in the Foundation’s educational, scholarship, and achievement programs will include the Foundation’s substantial contributors, Members, Officers, employees, their families, friends, and professional relationships. All of these individuals are eligible for goods, services, or funds on the same basis as any other qualified individual or member of the public, provided however, that in cases where participation is subjectively considered for approval, then any decision regarding these individuals will be made pursuant to the Foundation’s Bylaws and Conflict of Interest Policy to ensure that improper private benefits are not being given.
